Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the final poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While wagering on online poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I believe Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amt.. I think television can skew our view of the real world at times. The best players in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen participating in web poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in money games?
