Texas Hold em Poker Legends

Stu Ungar is considered by most to the very best NL Holdem Poker gambler ever.

The 3 time World Poker Champ was born in New York in ‘53 and began playing poker prior to reaching his teens.

The young bettor began betting gin and at the age of 10 had won his 1st gin rummy tournament, while on holiday with his mother and father. By the age of 14 the little poker maestro had turned professional and stopped going to school.

In ‘54 Stu entered the history books by winning ten thousand dollars in a gin tournament without sacrificing a single hand, a record which still appears in New York today.

The quick speaking superstar has been likened, in poker terms, to athletic greats like Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. Stu Ungar had a true ability for betting poker but regardless of his achievements in Texas holdem poker, he favored playing gin.

Stu once said that there may a number of day be a better NL Holdem player than him but he couldn’t see how anyone could ever be a much better gin gambler.

In ‘80 Stu was put on the world map as one of the ideal Hold’em Poker gamblers in the planet when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the first time. Amazingly it was the very first time he had played in the tournament.

The following year he put aside any thoughts that it had been luck, by effectively protecting his title. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by succeeding his 3rd World poker championship.

But this poker master also battled with substance abuse and a year after succeeding his third title Stu past away in his hotel room. According to physicians, he had passed away from cardiac arrest which was caused by his lifestyle.

Stu had began with nothing but his skill and talent for the casino game which made this poker excellent a millionaire numerous times over.
