Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse comments from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
