NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
