No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
