Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative feedback from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
